Dirty Smoke
by
steve coel
where have all the people gone?
urban
walking, street talking...dialling into what exactly?
some kind of vibe and
as with any vibe you get good ones and you
get bad ones.
too
many loners stand by walls and on street corners.
so
where have all the people gone when you’re still surrounded by
life?
there
is both a natural and man-made silence. sounds that climax
and bounce around boundaries
we place inside our communities.

machine
and tool, cloth and flesh, shade and light.
suspicion
etched into the shapes we make as we move around.
you
see maybe 2 or 3 sleeping bags every day.
grey
tracksuits, old trainers, cheap
smart haircuts, green skin.
smell
the pizza, dirty smoke, diesel.
it
ain’t anger, it really isn’t.
it’s
some kind of passive thing that’s going on here; roll
over, walk on by, eyes to the floor people.. eyes to the floor.

but
you know deep down, deep down, people are burning up.
because the thing is; honesty
and truth don’t always go together.
